Anuja was born into a low-income family in Edathua, a flood-prone region in the Alleppey district of Kerala. Her father works as a daily wage labourer. Unable to find regular work, he put up a small, petty shop adjacent to his home. He earns not more than Rs. 250/- per day. Anuja's house, built 55 years ago, got partially damaged in the floods that ravaged Kerala in 2018. Their family have been unable to apply for loans/aid to the Panchayat as the house's ownership has not been passed down to her father. The family needs to buy and transport 105 litres of clean drinking water that lasts only for a week.

Anuja is a brilliant student. She scored excellent marks in her Plus-2 exams, notching A+ in all subjects. Even though her family has no means to support her financially, Anuja dreams of becoming a veterinary doctor.

As her parents could not afford to send her for coaching classes, Value Education Trust sent out a request to its supporters. They provided the first instalment of fee for attending coaching classes.
