Arya belongs to Pattathanam village in Edathua region of Alleppey district. Arya’s father is a daily wage labourer.  Even though her parents have always found it quite challenging to make their ends meet, their life took a different turn when Arya’s sister fainted while at school. The doctors found a tumour on her heart. The family’s plea for help received encouraging response from many kind-hearted people and organizations in Kerala. With their support her sister underwent heart surgery. But she has not fully regained the strength in her hands and legs. Arya’s grandmother and Aunt also live with them. However, her grandmother suffers from diabetes and her aunt is differently-abled. So her father needs to find the money for their medicines as well.

Most of Arya’s neighbours are families that survive on daily wages for their living. Her house protected by only a tin-sheet roof, is located in a water-logged marshy area. The devastating floods of 2018 damaged their home built 32 years ago. But they were not able to repair it thoroughly as they got only 10,000 rupees from the Government. The water in the area is contaminated. So the family needs to buy water for drinking and cooking.
