Agencies of education, such as family, school, and community, play an important role in developing our young people’s ethical and moral values. Unfortunately, many families are disoriented, disorganised, and confused, failing to play their part due to various social and economic factors. Our institutions of learning are preparing efficient individuals but not essentially good citizens. Our society, which bears significant responsibility in bringing up its boys and girls to become virtuous and responsible, is slowly but surely losing its grip on them.
The issue of falling ethical and moral values in the youth can be addressed if we are able to build their character during the formative years. Character education involves training and mentoring children to develop their personal, character and work values. Its goal is to prepare children to be virtuous and responsible citizens.
